Kevin Harvick who won the pole selected to start in the outside line. He led 41 of the first 42 laps.

On lap 6, Denny Hamlin was up to 26th after starting in the back.
Notable Moment: Daniel Suarez’s car was starting to smoke 12 laps into the race and brought out a caution. He slapped the wall. He was in 22nd at the time.
Big Moment: On lap 13 under caution, Chase Elliott got spun on pit road. He was running in the high-teens at the time and it dropped him to the back of the field. Also at the time of that incident, Martin Truex Jr. got damage to the nose of his car. Bubba Wallace also had trouble on pit road at this time. This dropped Martin Truex Jr. a lap down. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Dillon also appear to have gotten some damage from the incident.
Notable Moment: On lap 18 while running in 6th, Kurt Busch made an unexpected pit stop. He had a tire rub.

On lap 24, Chase Elliott was now shown to be a lap down.
Notable Moment: Martin Truex Jr. made an unexpected pit stop around approximately lap 25 and he was now 3 laps down.

Big Moment: Landon Cassill crashed and totaled his car on lap 40.
During the Landon Cassill caution, Joey Logano and Ryan Newman didn’t pit which got them up to 1st and 2nd. Johnson and Larson took just two tires which got them up to 3rd and 4th.

Big Moment: With 2 laps to go in Stage #1, Erik Jones and Brad Keselowski had contact. This totaled both of their cars. Both ran really well up until that point in the race. This ended Stage #1.

Kyle Busch was really happy with his car on lap 70. He was running in the top five at the time.
Denny Hamlin was in 5th on lap 70. He started the race in the rear of the field.
On lap 79, Denny Hamlin had a vibration and then came to pit road.

Big Moment: On lap 88, Kyle Busch had an engine failure. Prior to his problem before the pit cycle ensued he was running in 5th.
In a post DNF interview, Kyle Busch said he thought he had a solid 3rd to 5th place car.
Only one more green flag lap was run in this Stage before it ended.
Stage #2 Top Ten Finishers (Lap 100): 4,42,12,22,14,41,1,48,24,10
On the opening lap of the final Stage, Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch wrecked (Paul Menard and Daniel Hemric too). Johnson and Busch were running right around 7th. Johnson’s day was now over. Kurt Busch had a lot of damage but he was able to continue.
