Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Phoenix (Spring 2020)
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin appeared to be a top five contender this spring at Phoenix, but in the first quarter of the race he was involved in an accident and got a good amount of damage which hampered him for the remainder of the afternoon. On lap 51 which was shortly before his problem he was running in 4th. When the checkered flag waved he finished 20th.
Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski finished 11th this spring at Phoenix, but that’s a misleading result. In the race, Keselowski was involved in an accident while running near the top five in Stage #1, he won Stage #2, led 82 laps and over the last 75% of the race his Speed Ranking in each Stage was in the top 4. With 20 laps to go he was the race leader, with 10 laps to go he was in 3rd, but then during a caution with 9 laps to go he pitted for tires which dropped him back to the high-teens with no time to recover.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott had a phenomenal car this spring at Phoenix that ranked among the best, but he finished an asterisk mark 7th. In the race, Elliott led a race high 93 laps, finished 2nd in Stage #1 and had the 2nd best Total Speed Ranking. Unfortunately, Elliott didn’t have an incident free race. In Stage #2 while he had a 1.4 second lead he made an unexpected pit stop which dropped him a lap down back to 28th.
