Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Daytona Road Course (2020)
Kyle Busch – Nobody had a more eventful afternoon last year at the Daytona Road Course than Kyle Busch and he finished an asterisk mark 37th. “Performance Wise”, Busch was easily a top ten contender, but he had problems early and often. In the race, Busch took the lead on lap #2, but in the process he flat spotted his tires which led to an early unexpected pit stop on lap 5. With the first Stage only being 15 laps, it really didn’t hurt him too much. Later on lap 22 while running in the top ten, Busch had an innocent single car spin. In the Final Stage is when trouble really surfaced for Busch that led to his poor result. With 20 laps to go, which was during a pit cycle he was up to 2nd behind race winner Chase Elliott, but then with 17 laps to go when he made his pit stop he had a brake rotor issue which led to the 18 getting pushed behind the wall. Later, Busch returned to the track only to total the #18 with six laps to go.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney is a strong road course racer and in 4 of the last 5 races on this track type he’s finished between 3rd to 8th. Unfortunately, the Daytona Road Course is the one blemish on his resume and last year he finished a misleading 31st. “Performance Wise”, Blaney was likely low double-digits good. With 20 laps to go he was in 13th, but then with 16 laps to go when he made his planned pit stop he was caught speeding on pit road which was basically a death sentence that late in the race. Then to conclude his afternoon he missed the front stretch chicane on the final lap.
