Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Charlotte #1 and #2
Charlotte #1 2020 Asterisk Mark Drivers
Denny Hamlin – In last years Coca Cola 600, Denny Hamlin finished an asterisk mark 29th. Hamlin’s competitive evening was literally over before the green flag waved. During pace laps he lost a weight ballast on the track and then had to come to pit road. When Hamlin finally returned to the track, he was 6 laps down.
Alex Bowman – Alex Bowman was impressive in last years Coca Cola 600, but during the “Over Time” restart he just dropped anchor from 3rd and fell all the way back to 19th. In the race, Bowman won Stage #1, won Stage #2, finished 2nd in Stage #2, had a 3.9 average running position and led a race high 164 laps.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott finished 2nd in last years Coca Cola 600 which is a great result, but he was poised to win until William Byron had a cut tire with 2 laps to go which brought out a caution. Elliott then pitted during the caution which dropped him back to 12th. It’s extremely impressive he drove up to 2nd from 12th during over-time.
William Byron – William Byron had the “Race Changing Moment” of last years Coca Cola 600 which led to him finishing an asterisk mark 20th. With two laps to go while he was running in 7th he had a flat tire and spun which brought out the caution. In the race, Byron finished 8th in Stage #1, 4th in Stage #2, 9th in Stage #3 and had a 7th place average running position.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano finished 13th in last years Coca Cola 600, but I thought he was better than his result. On lap 345, Logano was running in 10th, but then during a caution shortly after that he was caught speeding on pit road which dropped him back to 20th.
Ryan Newman – In last years Coca Cola 600, Ryan Newman had battery issues, twice which doomed him to a 27th place finish. On lap 234 when Newman had his first problem which led to a pit stop to replace his battery, he was running in 17th.
Bubba Wallace – Bubba Wallace didn’t have a great car in last years Coca Cola 600, but he certainly wasn’t 38th place bad. On lap 125 while he was running in 17th he made an unexpected pit stop for a hub issue. Wallace’s unexpected pit stop then led to a trip to the garage for lengthy repairs.
Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick 5th in last years Coca Cola 600, but that result is better than he performed. In the race, Harvick never placed in a Stage, had a 14.1 average running position and was running in 14th with 2 laps to go when the final caution came out.
Chris Buescher – Chris Buescher snuck in a 10th in last years Coca Cola 600, but like Kevin Harvick he finally artificially high thanks to the late caution. In the race his average running position was 17.4 and when the final caution came out he was running in 15th.
Matt DiBenedetto – Matt DiBenedetto was hurt by the final caution. Prior to it coming out he was running in 11th. He stayed out during that caution which got him up to 7th, but then he dropped back over the wild restart and fell back to 17th.
Cole Custer – Cole Custer finished 12th in last years Coca Cola 600, but take note he had a 21.8 average running position and was running in 20th when the final caution came out with 2 laps to go.
