Martinsville NASCAR Practice Notes
Group A Practice Notes
AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger will start in the rear of the field on Saturday night and will have to serve a pass thru penalty when the race goes green. I think this will drop him down 2, if not 3 laps. In practice, the #16 car was loose and Allmendinger wasn’t happy with how it was driving.
William Byron – William Byron had good speed. 10 minutes into practice he had the best 15 lap average. 10 minutes into practice while he was 4th overall, Byron said, “Edgy with the back like Richmond was. Balance is good otherwise.” Some late changes in practice were said to have made his car loose. Byron had the best 15 lap average.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson had good speed in his car over an extended run. 15 minutes into practice he had the best 20 lap average and the 2nd best 15 lap average. Larson said his car felt pretty good. He felt happy with his car. He said he thought the down shifting element might help him.
Aric Almirola – Aric Almirola made a +30-lap run. His car appears to have pretty good speed this weekend. Aric Almirola said his car was pretty fast in practice. His 15-lap average was the 11th best.
Bubba Wallace – Bubba Wallace had a big wheel lock up moment early in practice. Wallace was running quick lap times early. When group #1 ended, Wallace was #1 overall. Wallace seemed pleased with his car in an interview. In practice, Wallace had the 6th best 15 lap average.
