Asterisk Mark Report – Kansas #2 2023
Bubba Wallace – Last fall at Kansas, Bubba Wallace was fast and a top five contender, but he finished an asterisk mark 32nd. In the race, Wallace finished 2nd in Stage #1 but then on lap 108 in Stage #2 while also running in 2nd, Wallace had a flat tire and careened into the wall hard which doomed his afternoon.
Martin Truex Jr. – How good was Martin Truex Jr. last fall at Kansas? He might’ve been great and I’m sure he had a rocket, but he only completed 3-laps before his tire went flat and he crashed which doomed him to a 36th.
William Byron – Last fall at Kansas, William Byron looked sporty early but he finished 15th, and I would classify that as an asterisk mark result. On lap 63 while running in 4th, Byron spun which brought out a caution and from that point on, he just wasn’t good and never bounced back.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano finished 5th last fall but take not that good result is the product of pit strategy during the late caution. With 8 laps to go prior to it coming out, Logano was back in 15th.
