Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Daytona #2 2024
Joey Logano – Last summer at Daytona, I would argue that Joey Logano was subjectively the strongest, but he finished a misleading 31st. In the race, Logano finished 2nd in Stage #1, won Stage #2, earned the best Driver Rating, led the most laps (34), was tied for having the 2nd best average running position (7.5) but on lap 151 while running near the front, McDowell got airborne and Logano plowed into him, leading to his asterisk mark 31st.
Austin Cindric – I wouldn’t argue with anyone who said Austin Cindric was the best last summer, despite his 18th. In the race, Cindric had a race best 7.4 average running position, earned the 5th best Driver Rating, led 15 laps, was leading on lap 158 but then Josh Berry crashed into him, leading to Cindric’s 18th.
Michael McDowell – Last summer, Michael McDowell was a standout performer and ranked among the best, but he finished an asterisk mark 30th. In the race, McDowell led 26 laps (2nd most), had an 8.8 average running position but then late in the race on lap 151 while leading, he was crashed which led to his 30th.
Alex Bowman – Alex Bowman had an eventful race last summer but he looked to be a top ten contender but finished a misleading 16th. In the race, Bowman was involved in the lap 60 “Big One”, finished 6th in Stage #2, was in 6th on lap 150 but then on lap 151 he was damaged in another “Big One” when Michael McDowell got airborne.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson finished 21st last summer at Daytona but you can quickly disregard that result. “Performance Wise”, there’s no doubt he was a top ten contender. In the race, Larson finished 10th in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2, led 5 laps, had a 10.1 average running position, was running in 2nd on lap 150 but then on lap 151 he was damaged in the McDowell airborne crash.
