NOTE: This practice was mainly focused on qualifying for the Daytona 500. Some drivers had other agendas, but it was the primary focus of the session.

Kyle Busch – 20 minutes into practice, Kyle Busch was mentioned to have the fastest un-aided practice lap (That’s what they said). Busch did have a +5-lap run, so it might be dubious.

Brad Keselowski – The #6 was smoking during his first qualifying run. It was said to be a steering issue with his car. Keselowski later returned to the track and logged 4-laps, so his issue is likely repaired.

Ryan Preece – 20 minutes into practice, Ryan Preece was shown to have a similar smoking issue that his teammate, Brad Keselowski had. Preece returned and logged 2-laps, so his issue is perhaps fixed.

Joey Logano – Joey Logano’s quick lap was a single car run unlike many others who were draft assisted.

Martin Truex Jr. – 25-minutes into practice, Martin Turex Jr. posted the fastest “Open” car practice speed.
