Group A Driver Notes

Ryan Blaney – About 15 minutes into practice, Ryan Blaney blew a tire and got into the wall with the back of the #12. He’ll be starting in the rear of the field, and his team will fix his primary car. Last fall, Blaney also started in the back. Blaney’s 15-lap average in Group A was the 4th best. Blaney had good long run speed but not great takeoff speed. In terms of speed for Group A, Blaney had the best lap time between laps 10 to 17.

Bubba Wallace – Bubba Wallace had a lot of speed and jumped up to #1 early in practice. Wallace was supposedly not as happy with his car around lap 9. In Group A, Wallace had the best 5,10 and 15-lap averages. Wallace felt like his car was fast but didn’t drive good.

Erik Jones – The #43 was showing solid speed in practice. In Group A, Jones had the 2nd best 10-lap average, the 3rd best 15-lap average and the best 20-lap average.

Carson Hocevar – Hocevar seemed to have pretty solid speed. In Group A, Hocevar had the 2nd best 15-lap average. Hocevar was pretty pleased with his car. He focused on being good on long runs and he feels like his team achieved that.

AJ Allmendinger – 10 minutes into practice while he was 7th, Allmendinger said his car is stable through the bumps and feels pretty good; however, he’s tight in turns 3 & 4.
