Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Martinsville #2 2024

Chase Briscoe – Chase Briscoe had a great car last fall at Martinsville and finished 15th but I don’t think that result reflects his afternoon accurately. For whatever reason at the end, he just wasn’t at his best to close out. In the race, Briscoe had an 8.0 average running position and the 8th best Total Speed Ranking.
Carson Hocevar – Carson Hocevar finished 25th last fall at Martinsville but that’s a misleading result. On lap 398 while battling for 13th, Alex Bowman spun him, leading to Hocevar’s misleading finish.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch didn’t have an incident free race last fall at Martinsville but he did look like a top ten contender with about 100 laps to go, until the wheels came off, literally which led to his asterisk mark 28th. In the race, Busch was burned by the early caution during the pit cycle on lap 60 but he battled back and once he got back on the lead lap, he logged laps in the top ten. On lap 386, Busch was up to 7th. Then around lap 406 during a restart while running in 10th, Busch lost a wheel under caution which doomed him to his poor finish.
Ty Gibbs – Last fall, Ty Gibbs had a rough afternoon where he progressively got worse and finished 32nd. Gibbs showed pace early, but things went south as the race went on due to transmission issues. In the race, Gibbs started 5th, finished about 12th in Stage #1, finished around the high 20’s in Stage #2 and then finished 32nd when the checkered flag waved. For the afternoon his Total Speed Ranking was 29th, but his speed over the segments were 11th, 18th, 36th and then 35th.
