Mexico City Outlook = Ty Gibbs is an extremely capable road course racer who you shouldn’t overlook. Gibbs has been in contention to win on this track type multiple times in the past and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a factor once again. Gibbs has fallen off a little bit and been finding trouble frequently but since 2024, he still ranks 11th in terms of Track Type Total Speed Rankings. Also since 2024 minus COTA 2025, the Charlotte Roval and Sonoma, Gibbs has a 14.3 average finish. Heading into Mexico, I would view Gibbs as a risky top ten contender.

Alex Bowman
Mexico City Outlook = At Mexico City, look for Alex Bowman to show up and run well if he can avoid trouble, which is never far. Bowman is a solid road course racer and since 2024 on this track type, Bowman has a Chicago win, he’s tied for the 4th best average finish (10.8, crediting him with his Charlotte Roval finish), has the 5th best Average Running Position, has the 9th best Track Type Total Speed Ranking and the 10th best Driver Rating. Bowman has also been as safe as they come on this track type and is one of just 3 drivers who are 6 for 6 at finishing in the top 20 every race. To start the season on this track type at COTA, Bowman finished 9th.

Daniel Suarez
Mexico City Outlook = At Mexico City, I think Daniel Suarez will either have a hero or zero afternoon, with no middle ground. This race is circled on the 99’s schedule, so I expect them to unload a rocket. At road courses, Suarez is a former winner (Sonoma 2022) and since 2024 on this track type, Suarez ranks 16th in terms of speed and minus both COTA races and the Charlotte Roval, Suarez has a 12.7 average finish. This spring at COTA, Suarez had speed (6th best Total Speed Ranking) but his afternoon ended early due to an accident (36th).
