Joey Logano – Joey Logano had a rocket in the Daytona 500 that might’ve just been the best, but he had a handful of problems and finished an asterisk mark 35th. In the race, Logano started 10th, led 43 laps, won Stage #1 but then to begin Stage #2 while leading, Logano had trouble getting up to speed due to a piece of debris that went into his throttle body, and it caused a multi-car wreck. Then after two lengthy pit stops in Stage #2, the #22 team fixed the issue and Logano rebounded to finish 8th in Stage #2. Then in the final Stage, the #22 team did another lengthy pit stop to make his car better and Logano was up to 7th on lap 185, but then he had contact with Stenhouse which caused a “Big One.”

Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin was a contender to win the Daytona 500 but he finished a misleading 24th. On the last lap in overtime while battling for the lead, Hamlin was crashed which led to his misleading result. When it was closing time, Hamlin ran up front when it mattered and led 6-laps late.

Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell was a contender to win the Daytona 500 but he finished an asterisk mark 31st. Late in the race on lap 195 while he was battling side by side for the lead, Cole Custer who was behind him wrecked him which led to Bell’s misleading result.

Austin Cindric – Austin Cindric was strong in the Daytona 500 and was arguably the best but he finished a misleading 8th. In the race, Cindric finished 2nd in Stage #2, had the best average running position (5.7), earned the best Driver Rating, led the most laps (59) but then on the last lap he was caught up in some of the mayhem and faded from leading to his 8th.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – In this year’s Daytona 500, Ricky Stenhouse looked good and drove to the front late but crashed and finished 18th. In the race, Stenhouse was in 3rd on lap 185 but then that very lap, him and Logano got together and crashed which led to his poor result.

AJ Allmendinger – One driver has to finish last in every Daytona 500 and that was AJ Allmendinger, and he finished 41st. On lap 40, Allmendinger was running in 15th but then on lap 43 he had an engine failure which marked the end of his race.

Ross Chastain – Ross Chastain had a short evening in this year’s Daytona 500 and finished an asterisk mark 40th.  In Stage #1, Chastain finished around 20th but then during the Stage #2 restart when Logano had trouble getting up to speed, Chastain crashed.

Josh Berry – In this year’s Daytona 500, Berry had a short race and finished 27th. In the race, Berry finished back around the high 20’s in Stage #1 and then at the beginning of Stage #2, he crashed when Logano had trouble getting up to speed.

Zane Smith – Zane Smith is 3 for 4 at finishing 13th at Daytona and his non-16th came this February when he finished an asterisk mark 36th. Late in Stage #1 on lap 60, Smith was in 19th but then three laps later, Hamlin had an out-of-control moment and then Smith spun, hit Josh Berry, broke his toe link and then took his car to the garage.

Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch looked to be a top ten performer in this year’s Daytona 500 but he finished an asterisk mark 34th. In the race, Busch finished 10th in Stage #2, earned the 9th best Driver Rating, had the 10th best Average Running Position, was running in 5th on lap 185 but then later that lap he was collected in the Logano/Stenhouse “Big One” which led to his 34th.

Shane van Gisbergen – SVG finished 33rd in this year’s Daytona 500. Although he’s not officially listed in it, I think SVG was damaged in the restart for Stage #2 wreck. On lap 67, SVG was in 12th but then after that, he was pegged back in the 30’s in the running order.

Ryan Preece – Ryan Preece is becoming synonymous with flips at Daytona and in this year’s “Great American Race”, Preece flipped late and finished 32nd. In the race, Preece led 6 laps, spent some time running near the front, was in 12th on lap 195 but then later that lap he was caught up in a “Big One.”

Bubba Wallace – In this year’s Daytona 500, Wallace was a top ten contender, but he finished an asterisk mark 29th. In the race, Wallace finished 9th in Stage #2, had the 5th best average running position (11.4), earned the 6th best driver rating, was running in 11th on lap 191 but was then caught up in a wreck shortly after that on lap 195.

Noah Gragson – Noah Gragson could’ve potentially snuck in a good result in the Daytona 500 but he crashed late and finished 28th. On lap 185 at the time of his demise, Gragson was running in 6th.

Cody Ware – Cody Ware has a knack for sneaking in respectable results at Daytona and he almost got another in this year’s Daytona 500. On the last lap he was running in 11th but then Ware was caught up in the closing lap mayhem which led to his 25th.

Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski had a great car in the Daytona 500 but he was a late crash victim and finished a misleading 26th. In the race, Keselowski finished 2nd in Stage #1, finished mid-pack in Stage #2, looked to be bidding his time for a lot of the final Stage, was running in 17th on lap 195 but then later that lap he was caught up in a “Big One.”

Kyle Larson – In this year’s Daytona 500, Larson finished 20th, had the 17th best average running position (17.5) and earned the 22nd best Driver Rating. In the race, Larson started in the rear of the field, didn’t place in any Stages, didn’t lead any laps, was running in 14th on lap 195 but was then later caught up in a wreck on that very lap.

Carson Hocevar – Carson Hocevar finished 30th in this year’s Daytona 500 but he had problems under his hood all evening long, so I don’t have any real takeaways for his race due to that.
