Polesitter, William Byron choose to start in the outside lane. Byron led the opening 243 laps.

Big: On lap 4 while running in 19th, Kyle Larson spun and pounded the inside wall which brought out the caution. Larson then went to the garage for repairs but eventually returned to the race.

During the Larson caution, mixed pit strategy took place. The tires only had 3-laps on them under green. The first driver to have pitted was Bubba Wallace from the top five. He restarted in 17th.
