Kansas Group 1 Driver Practice Notes

Zane Smith – Zane Smith unloaded fast and looked solid in practice. In Group 1, Smith ranked #1 for 5 and 10-lap averages. Smith is using his Darlington car which they view to be the best in the #38 fleet. They are top 10 optimistic this weekend. Smith was happy with how practice went, and he felt great about his car. Take note, his 15-lap average came during a later run, so I wouldn’t read into it too much (artificially slow none the less).

Chris Buescher – Chris Buescher had the best overall speed in Group 1. The #17 was said to be a little free on the bottom of the track. Buescher was viewed to have one of the best long run cars in Group 1. Buescher said he was happy with his car. He said he had good maneuverability and he’s in a good spot so far this weekend. His 15-lap average ranked as the 3rd best in Group 1.

Erik Jones – Erik Jones showed pace in practice. In group 1, he ranked 3rd for 10-lap averages and had the best 20,25 and 30-lap averages. Jones was shown to have gotten slightly into the wall.

Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch was struggling in practice. He didn’t crack into the 10-lap average territory until late in Group 1 practice and he only beat Ware and Yeley.

AJ Allmendinger – The #16 showed solid pace in Group 1, with Allmendinger ranking 2nd for 10-lap averages and having the best 15-lap average. The #16 was said to be going in a direction he didn’t like late.
