Charlotte Roval Full Field Fantasy Rankings
1) Shane van Gisbergen
Start 2nd / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – High
Charlotte Roval Outlook – At the Charlotte Roval in the Bank Of America ROVAL 400, the road to victory lane goes thru Shane van Gisbergen. This year at road courses, SVG has thoroughly dominated the competition with 4-wins, a 2.0 average finish, a 1.2 Track Type Total Speed Ranking and the best Driver Rating by a huge margin. SVG’s only agenda this weekend is to win, and he won’t be points racing like many others. Last year at the Roval in his only Cup start, SVG started on the pole, led 21 laps, earned the 6th best Driver Rating, had the 7th best average running position (7.6) and then finished 7th overall. Early in the last Stage on lap 62 while he was running just outside the top ten after pit strategy cycled him back, SVG was spun out, and it dropped him back to the 20’s which makes his good finish more remarkable. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, SVG ranked 7th with his speed over the segments being 1st, 3rd, 23rd and then 7th. In practice, SVG was the undisputed class of the field in terms of long run speed, and his 10-lap average was the best.

2) Christopher Bell
Start 7th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium
Charlotte Roval Outlook – Christopher Bell is a super-elite road course racer who’ll be tough to beat in the Bank Of America ROVAL 400. Bell’s a former winner and in 2 of the last 3 races at this hybrid track, Bell’s finished in the top 2. In the Next Gen at the Roval, Bell has the 2nd best average finish (6th), he’s tied for the 2nd best Next Gen Speed Ranking and his Driver Rating ranks as the 2nd best among drivers who competed in every race. Last year, Bell had a rocket and finished 2nd. In the race, Bell had the 2nd best average running position (5.4), earned the 2nd best Driver Rating and had the 2nd best Total Speed Ranking. In 2023, Bell was points racing and that’s ultimately not conducive for a good end result. In the race, Bell started 2nd, finished 5th in Stage #1, finished 2nd in Stage #2, led 9 laps, had an 11.0 average running position and then finished 15th overall. In 2022, Bell took the lead during over-time and then raced his way to victory lane. By no means did Bell have the best car and on lap 103 before late cautions broke out, Bell was in 7th. Additionally, Bell had the 6th best Total Speed Ranking and an 8.7 average running position. This year at road courses, Bell has been the best driver not named SVG and for the season minus Chicago, Bell has 1-win, two runner-up’s, a 2.5 average finish and a 3.75 average Speed Ranking. In Group 2, Bell had the 2nd best 5-lap average and the 4th best 10-lap average.

3) William Byron
Start 13th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Low
Charlotte Roval Outlook – William Byron is an elite road course racer who’ll be a factor. At the Charlotte Roval, Byron ranks among the best and over the last two races, Byron has a series best 2.5 average finish, the 2nd best average running position (7.6), the 3rd best Driver Rating and a 4.5 average Speed Ranking. In the Next Gen over the last three, Byron ranks 4th in terms of average finish (7.0) and has the 7th best Next Gen Speed Ranking. Last year, Byron had a great performance. In the race, Byron started 10th, earned the 4th best Driver Rating, had the 5th best average running position (7.57) and then finished 3rd overall. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Byron ranked 4th. In 2023, the #24 was strong and Byron finished runner-up. In the race, Byron had a 7.6 average running position, earned the 5th best Driver Rating and had the 5th best Total Speed Ranking. In 2022, Byron finished 16th, had a 15.4 average running position and had the 13th best Total Speed Ranking. It just wasn’t a real competitive showing from him. In 2021, Byron looked great but finished an asterisk mark 11th. In the race, Byron had the best Total Speed Ranking, led the most laps (30), had the best average running position (5.2) and earned the best driver rating. The final Stage was unfortunately anything but incident free for Byron. On lap 90 while battling for 2nd he missed the chicane which dropped him back to about 11th (had to stop on the track) and then on lap 107 after he battled back up to 3rd, Byron lost control of the #24 and spun into the grass which led to his 11th. In the two Charlotte Roval races prior to that, Byron had back-to-back 6th place finishes. This year at road courses, Byron ranks 3rd in terms of Track Type Total Speed Rankings and his average finish minus Chicago is 5.8. In practice, Byron was viewed to be one of the best and in Group 2, Byron had the best 15-lap average and the 3rd best 10-lap average.
