Martinsville Xfinity 500 Fantasy NASCAR Confidence Rankings / Post Practice Predictions

On Sunday, NASCAR will be racing at Martinsville for the Xfinity 500 to battle it out to set the “Phoenix Final Four!” Desperate drivers do desperate things, so look for the intensity to be turned up a dial. Martinsville is NASCAR’s shortest and slowest track, but the action can be second to none.

On Saturday, practice was held for Martinsville. Teams had 25 minutes to fine tune their car and adapt to the new tire. 1) Chase Elliott
Start 8th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Martinsville Outlook – Chase Elliott has been a super-elite performer at Martinsville. Elliott’s a former winner (2022 #2) and in the Next Gen, he’s 6 for 7 at finishing in the top ten with the 4th best average finish, the 3rd best Next Gen Speed Ranking and the 3rd best Driver Rating. Over the last three races, Elliott’s been especially strong and since 2024, Elliott has a 3.0 average finish, a 1.3 Average Speed Ranking, the best average running position (4.5) and the best Driver Rating. This spring, Elliott had a rocket. In the race, Elliott started 2nd, finished 2nd in Stage #2, had the 2nd best average running position (3.9), earned the 2nd best Driver Rating, led the 2nd most laps (42) and then finished 4th overall. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Elliott ranked 2nd. Last fall, Elliott was Blaney’s top competitor. In the race, Elliott finished 2nd, earned the 2nd best Driver Rating and led the 2nd most laps (129). In terms of Speed stats, Elliott had the best Total Speed Ranking and ranked 4th for Speed Late In A Run. Last spring, Elliott was a standout performer. In the race, Elliott led 64 laps, had a race best 3.2 average running position, earned the 2nd best Driver Rating and then finished 3rd overall. In terms of speed stats, Elliott had the best Total Speed Ranking and ranked # 1 for Speed Late In A Run. In practice, Elliott was a stopwatch standout with the best 15-lap average and the best 30-lap average.

2) Denny Hamlin
Start 5th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Martinsville Outlook – Denny Hamlin’s a super-elite performer at Martinsville and on Sunday, the spring winner will be tough to beat as he vies for a season sweep. At “The Paper Clip”, Hamlin’s a 6-time winner who’s finished in the top five, 54% of the time and in the top ten 69% of the time. Over the last six Martinsville races, Hamlin has a 4.8 average finish (3rd best), the best Driver Rating, the best average running position (5.0) and he’s averaged leading the most laps per race (122.5). In terms of Next Gen Speed Rankings, Hamlin ranks 2nd. This spring, the #11 team showed up to the track with a new setup and Hamlin smoked the field.  In the race, Hamlin finished 1st, had a 2.4 average running position, earned a near perfect Driver Rating and led 274 laps. In terms of speed analytics, Hamlin had the best Total Speed Ranking and ranked as the Fastest Driver Late In A Run. Last fall, Hamlin started the race in the rear of the field after a practice crash but raced his way up to a 5th place finish. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Hamlin ranked 5th. Last spring, Hamlin had a hot rod but finished an asterisk mark 11th. In the race, Hamlin finished 7th in Stage #1, won Stage #2, led 66 laps, had a 4.4 average running position and was running in 4th when the late caution came out, but then they pitted which was very dumb, leading to his asterisk mark 11th. In terms of speed stats, Hamlin had the 4th best Total Speed Ranking and ranked 5th for Speed Late In A Run. In fall 2023, Hamlin led the most laps (156), earned the 2nd best Driver Rating, had the 2nd best Total Speed Ranking and then finished 3rd. Over the two races prior to that, Hamlin had results of 4th and 5th. During qualifying, the #11 car had problems firing up, so keep an eye out if there’s any Sunday morning regarding the situation.

3) Joey Logano
Start 4th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium
Martinsville Outlook – Defending Cup champion, Joey Logano will be a force to be reckoned with at Martinsville, and he won’t go down without a fight. Logano came up clutch when needed in the past here, so there’s no doubt he’s willing to do whatever it takes. In the Next Gen at Martinsville over the combined races, Logano has the 3rd best average finish (5.6), the 6th best Total Speed Ranking, the 6th best Driver Rating and he’s the only driver who’s a perfect 7 for 7 at finishing in the top ten. Going further back, Logano currently has 12 straight top tens here. This spring, Logano’s top ten streak looked to be in real jeopardy, but he wouldn’t be denied. In the race, Logano started 7th, won Stage #1, finished just outside the top ten in Stage #2, was in 6th on lap 316 but then the following lap he was spun out which dropped him back to the mid 20’s, with only about 75 laps remaining. When the checkered flag waved, Logano finished 8th. In terms of speed stats, Logano ranked 5th for Speed Late In A Run and had the 7th best Total Speed Ranking. Last fall, Logano finished 10th despite the #22 team looking ahead. Additionally, Logano had a 12.0 average running position and ranked 11th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. Last spring, Logano finished 6th in Stage #1, finished 5th in Stage #2, had a 6.0 average running position and then finished 6th overall. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Logano ranked 7th. Over the four races prior to that, Logano had results of 5th, 2nd, 6th and 2nd.
