Michigan Group 1 Driver Practice Notes

William Byron – William Byron was fast throughout a run. Byron reported that he was tight in some turns. The #24 aimed for down force in terms of setup this weekend. In Group 1, Byron ranked #1 for 10,15 and 20-lap averages. Byron said his car was doing a lot of good things and he felt like his balance could be better. He said overall he felt good about his car.

Chris Buescher – Buescher had the best overall speed in Group 1. In Group 1, Buescher had the best 5-lap average and the 2nd best 10-lap average. Buescher said he was happy with his car and it drove well.

Ross Chastain – Ross Chastain unloaded fast and had a lot of speed. In Group 1, Chastain ranked 5th for 10-lap averages and then 2nd for both 15 and 20-lap averages.

Todd Gilliland – Gilliland said his car was sideways and he was way off pace because it wasn’t handling good. Gilliland never made a 5-lap run in practice. Gilliland said changes might’ve made his car slightly better.

Austin Cindric – About 10-minutes into practice, Austin Cindric had a flat tire which brought out the caution. At the time of his flat, he didn’t even have a 5-lap average, and it was lap 8 overall for him. Cindric never made a 5-lap run in practice.

Alex Bowman – Alex Bowman started with a 4-lap run and then ducked down pit road for adjustments. Bowman’s 5-lap average came late in practice which had him way down the speed chart in 34th overall.
