Shane van Gisbergen – Shane van Gisbergen looked really good and was fast. On lap 5, SVG told his team that his rear tires were cooked (Many drivers said the same thing). During his final run, SVG set the best 5-lap average in practice. SVG said his car wasn’t too bad. SVG didn’t appear to do a qualifying run and ended practice 8th overall in terms of speed.

Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell did 7-laps of practice. Brent Crews is a standby driver if needed this weekend. Crews logged some laps over about the final 15-minutes of practice. Bell never made a 5-lap run. Bell ended practice 36th overall.

Brad Keselowski – Early in practice, Keselowski got in a tire barrier. He didn’t get into it hard. Keselowski never made a 5-lap run and ended practice 35th overall.

Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson had good speed, and his 5-lap average was the 7th best. Late in practice, Larson posted the fastest overall lap in practice. Larson was mentioned to be putting in a lot more sim time than usual for San Diego.

Austin Cindric – Austin Cindric was shown to have spun out early in practice in a chicane. In practice his 5-lap average ranked as the 26th best.

Austin Hill – Austin Hill had surprise speed in practice and was #1 on the leaderboard early. His 5-lap average was also the best for much of practice. When practice ended, Hill ranked 2nd for 5-lap averages and in terms of overall speed he ranked 9th.
