Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Sonoma 2025

Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney was a top contender last year at Sonoma, but he finished an asterisk mark 36th. On lap 62 while running in 4th, Buescher had contact with Blaney which sent him off-roading and stuck which dropped him a lap down. Then later to add insult to injury, he was spun on lap 106. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Blaney ranked 12th but take note his speed over the segments were 4th, 4th, 12th and then 35th.
Chris Buescher – Chris Buescher was a top five contender last year at Sonoma, but he finished an asterisk mark 16th. In the race, Buescher was in 4th on lap 105 but then in the closing laps following a late caution, he just dropped back in the wildness and was passed by drivers with fresher tires. In terms of speed stats, Buescher ranked as the 4th fastest driver late in a run and had the 5th best Total Speed Ranking.
Kyle Larson – Last year at Sonoma, Kyle Larson finished an asterisk mark 35th. In the race, Larson didn’t seem to like his car, and he also had a late spin on lap 106 while running in 20th, which doomed him to his misleading 35th. In terms of “Performance”, I would say Larson was really a teen’s performer. In the race, Larson had the 13th best Total Speed Ranking and had a 16.1 average running position.
Zane Smith – Zane Smith finished 27th last year at Sonoma but that’s a misleading finish and “Performance Wise”, I think he was really a teens performer. Late in the race, Smith ran a lot of laps in the teens but then late in the race when a caution came out, he elected not to get tires and as a result, he was eaten alive in the running order and dropped from 7th on lap 105 to his 27th, just five laps later. In the race, Smith had the 15th best average running position (17.8) and ranked 21st for Total Speed Rankings.
