Denny Hamlin started in the rear of the field in a backup car.
Zane Smith, John H Nemechek, Michael McDowell and Jesse Love all started in the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments.

Chase Briscoe who started on the pole led the opening 19 laps.
On lap 5, Denny Hamlin who started in the rear of the field in a backup car was already up 9 positions.

Big: On lap 17, Ross Chastain who was running back in 34th spun and crashed. This marked the end of his race, leading to his 39th. He was blocking McDowell and then the #71 got into him.
During the Chastain caution, Austin Cindric, Joey Logano and Josh Berry didn’t pit which got them to the front. Cindric then led the next 22 laps.

During the lap 23 restart lap, Josh Berry lost a few positions.
Big: On lap 26, Michael McDowell had a tire go down and was slow. He then came to pit road. No caution came out. He was running around the mid 30’s at the time.
Big: On lap 29 while running in 16th, Noah Gragson made an unscheduled pit stop which dropped him off the lead lap.

On lap 41, Joey Lognao made his first pit stop of the race from 2nd under green. Cindric came in the next lap from the lead. Berry came in the next lap. They all remained on the lead lap.
Late in Stage #1 on lap 47, Erik Jones came to pit road as a pit strategy play from 6th. Jones remained on the lead lap.

Big: On lap 56 during the restart for Stage #2, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was shown to be smoking after apparently getting into the wall. He then came to pit road the next time by which dropped him down a lap. Austin Dillon was also damaged during the restart and the next time by he went to the garage to repair his radiator. This was an accordion type wreck for the restart and no caution ever came out. Stenhouse was back in the high 20’s and Dillon was in the low double-digits. Ty Dillon also got some nose damage from this. I believe Cody Ware was also damaged from this.

On lap 64, Ryan Preece came to pit road from the lead. He was using out of sync pit strategy and didn’t pit during the Stage caution. Preece had a 16-second pit stop which dropped him a lap down.
On lap 66, Bowman and Haley came to pit road.

Big: On lap 78, Cole Custer had a tire issue and then made an unexpected pit stop. He was running around the high-teens prior to his issue. It took him quite a bit of time to get back to pit road.

Big: On lap 84 while leading, Austin Cindric had a flat tire that shredded.

During the Stage #2 caution, Ryan Blaney pitted from the lead when pit road was closed since he was so low on fuel. He had to restart in the very back. Other notables who pitted were Bowman, Gibbs and Keselowski. Most of the field didn’t pit.
