Las Vegas South Point 400 NASCAR Practice Notes
Josh Berry – About 30-minutes into practice, Josh Berry crashed hard. He’ll be starting in the rear of the field in a backup car. Up to that point in practice, Berry still didn’t make a 10-lap run. In terms of 5-lap averages, Berry ranked as the 2nd slowest. Berry said his car didn’t fire off great, but it was coming to him.
William Byron – William Byron unloaded fast and had a ton of speed right off the truck. In practice, Byron had the best overall speed and had the best 5-lap average. Byron started with an 8-lap run and came in for adjustments. Byron wasn’t happy with some early adjustments. Byron said his car was fast. When practice ended, Byron’s 10-lap average ranked 9th overall. He didn’t do a 15-lap run.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson was fast in practice. He came to pit road on lap 9. Prior to coming in, his 5-lap average ranked as the 2nd best. In the second half of practice, Larson posted the best 10-lap average of the session. Larson said his team made improvements throughout practice.
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin has a good car. Jeff Burton really liked how he looked over his early long run early in practice. When practice ended, Hamlin ranked 13th for 10-lap averages, 8th for 15-lap averages and then 5th for 20-lap averages. Denny Hamlin was happy with his car in practice and liked its characteristics.
Tyler Reddick – Tyler Reddick appears to have a great car this weekend. Ten minutes into practice, he had the fastest laps 10-17. 10 minutes into practice, Reddick had the fastest 15 and 20-lap averages. About 15-minutes into practice, Reddick was stopped on the track due to a flat tire. Reddick was really happy with his car prior to his flat tire. The #45 team thought it was actually a puncture and not a failure to explain the flat.
Chase Briscoe – Chase Briscoe looked great in practice and was fast. Briscoe said his short run speed was good. He felt like he was an adjustment away from being really good. In practice, Briscoe had the 2nd best 10-lap average, the 4th best 15-lap average and the 6th best 20-lap average.
