Martinsville Xfinity 500 NASCAR Practice Notes

Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson didn’t have a great practice session in terms of raw speed. With under 10-minutes to go he said, “It sucks.” I’ll note at the time of that statement, there was some tire confusion on his part. He thought he was on new tires but was on scuffs. Larson said he ended practice good. He said he got better over the course of practice. In practice, Larson ranked 30th for 15-lap averages and 26th for 25-lap averages.
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin unloaded a rocket and during his opening run, he ranked #1 for 5,10,15 and 20-lap averages (for the time). During an interview, Hamlin said his car was pretty solid. When practice ended, Hamlin ranked 7th for 10-lap averages, 9th for 20-lap averages and then 5th for 30-lap averages.
Ryan Blaney – Jeff Burton liked how Ryan Blaney looked. He was mentioned to be hugging the curb. In practice, Blaney ranked 10th for 15-lap averages and then 13th for 25-lap averages.
Chase Elliott – Steve Letart thought that Elliott was perhaps the best driver after about 20-laps, about 15-minutes into practice. When practice ended, Elliott ranked 4th for 30-lap averages.
William Byron – William Byron seems to have a good car. When practice ended, he ranked between 12th to 15th across the board for 10 thru 30-lap averages. Byron said he felt like he was competitive in practice. He thinks they are OK, but they have to keep working on it.
