Talladega Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 Happy Hour Practice Notes

Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Junior practiced in the pack as much as possible. He revealed his game plan for the race will be to stay near the front.
Jimmie Johnson – The #48 team once again practiced by themselves. Their runs were short and they tinkered on things to fine tune the #48.
Kasey Kahne – Kahne said the #5 was comfortable in the pack and they had good grip. He also said they could push for about a lap and a half. His game plan in the race will be to stay near the front.

Hey, Ryan. I see you like Brad K. as your top pick. Understandable. I’m thinking Denny Hamlin and the #11 FedEx Toyota myself. But Paul Menard as a ‘B’ driver? I know ‘Dega is a total crapshoot, but that’s a bit of a stretch. I do, however, like your bold pick of Burton and the #31 car. Don’t think many managers will have him on their roster. As for the ‘C’ driver this week…I’m thinking David Ragan and the #34 car. Who would be his drafting partner? Does he have a teammate?
Thanks and good luck this week.

If you’re talking about the fantasyracingcheatsheet.com experts pick page that’s typically not who I use. That’s kind of just what I think on a Monday night ; )
I really don’t see Menard as to much of a stretch. Here’s the content I wrote about him in my Front Runner Rankings post…
“Paul Menard has been one of the most consistent restrictor plate drivers lately. Last year he scored the most points in the series at these venues and so far this season he ranks as the 5th best. This spring at Talladega Menard started in 17th, led 10 laps and finished right where he begun (17th). In his next three most recent Dega races he’s finished 12th, 12th and 13th. When you look at his stats it appears his last wreck at one of these venues was in 2009.”
In terms of Ragan I don’t think drafting partners are really to important anymore because of pack drafting. I think whoever people are by at the end will dictate who they work with. Ragan’s teammate is David Gilliland.
Good luck yourself

Ryan, do u like Ambrose or Mcmurray the best this week?
October 6, 2012 @ 2:23 pm
It’s essentially a coin flip but I think I would take Ambrose. McMurray’s a better plate racer but he’s been M.I.A this season. Since April he’s only finished in the top ten once. Also he currently has a five race streak of finishing 21st or worse. I don’t want to mess with that bad mojo this weekend. My pros for Ambrose are that he’s been better this year and the Ford’s have been the fastest cars on plate tracks this season.

Thank you very much,i was leaning towards Ambrose also.

I know this is a coin flip.but your thoughts on Bobby Labonte
October 6, 2012 @ 9:48 pm
Labonte honestly has been that bad this season on plate tracks. He has a 15th place average finish and if you’re in an allocation league he’s probably as good as any pick.

I’m not quite sure I understand your question but in that grouping of drivers I would rank them 51,47,78 and then 83.
