Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer has been Mr. Consistent at Chicagoland and is my top fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Ranking driver. He’s raced here seven times and has finished in the top ten in every race but one. Minus his non-top ten result he has a 8.2 average finish. Also in his Chicagoland races minus his non-top ten he has the 5th best driver rating and a 11.5 average running position. Currently at this venue he has four consecutive top tens. Last year at Chicago Clint Bowyer ran around 10th for the entirety of the race. He started in 9th, had a 10th place average running position and finished 10th. Also in the race last season he earned the 7th best driver rating and led 6 laps. Leading laps here is an area of weakness because he’s only led a grand total of 8 laps and 75% percent of them were in last season’s race. On 1.5 mile tracks this season Clint Bowyer has been a strong performer. Minus his struggles at Las Vegas and engine failure at Atlanta while leading he has a 7.8 average finish and a 8.5 average running position. Prior to his engine failure at Atlanta his next three most recent results on tracks of this length were 3rd, 8th and 5th. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Carl Edwards – Last year at Chicagoland the Fords were lacking speed. None of them were very competitive and that includes Edwards. Last year he was very mediocre. He started in 5th, had a 15th place average running position, earned the 18th best driver rating and finished 19th. Prior to last season’s race his two most recent results were 4th and 2nd. In his 2011 4th place finish he led 39 laps and earned the 5th best driver rating. This season on high-speed intermediate tracks he’s been a strong performer but it seems like something happens to him all to often that dashes a finish that truly reflects how well he’s performed. Two such races were Atlanta and Kansas. In the six races on tracks of this length he has the 8th best average finish (12.5), 3rd best average running position (8.8) and the 7th best driver rating. Look for Edwards to have a strong performance in the Chicagoland Geico 400. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Ryan Newman – Chicagoland has been a good track for Ryan Newman. He’s a former winner (2003) who has a 14.9 average finish. What I really like about Newman here is how well he’s performed recently. In five of the last six Chicagoland races he’s finished in the top ten. Last season he had a strong performance. He started mid pack (20th), had a 12th place average running position, finished 5th and earned the 8th best driver rating. This season on 1.5 mile tracks minus Las Vegas (engine failure) he has a 9.8 average finish and hasn’t had a result worse than 14th. His most recent result on a 1.5 mile track was a 5th at Atlanta.
