Aric Almirola – Last year at Chicagoland Aric Almirola made his debut at this venue. I was impressed especially early in the race. He started in 2nd, led the first 3 laps but was wrongfully penalized by NASCAR during the first round of pit stops. That dropped him deep in the field and he was never able to recover from it. Before he was penalized he never ran lower than 5th. When the checkered flag waved he finished 17th. This season on 1.5 mile tracks Aric Almirola hasn’t been a bad mid tier fantasy option. Minus Charlotte where he was invovled in a wreck he has a 13.2 average finish and a 15.2 average running position. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Paul Menard – Paul Menard isn’t a bad mid tier fantasy option for the Chicagoland Geico 400. On high speed intermediate tracks this season his 14.4 average finish ranks as the 10th best in the series. In the nine races on this track type he has 1 top five, 4 top tens, and finished in the top fifteen 67% percent of the time. Also in these races he’s run in the top fifteen 50% percent of the time. At Chicagoland Paul Menard has finishes all across the board. He has a 24.7 average finish and in the last three races he’s had results of 10th, 15th and 20th. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Denny Hamlin – If you’ve been watching Denny Hamlin on the track this season you know the risk associated with picking him. He’s simply been terrible since June. Results over a 3 month span can’t be ignored. Early in the season despite his finishes he performed well on 1.5 mile tracks but until he has a good month those results should be voided to simply shield you from risk. Last season at Chicagoland Denny Hamlin had a good car. During the last lap he was running in 7th but he ran out of gas and crossed the finish line in 16th. In 2011 he had a cut tire and pounded the wall after having contact with Biffle. As a result he finished 31st. In his next two most recent races at Chicagoland he’s had results of 8th and 5th. Those are also his only two top tens here. (Yahoo! A Driver)
