Denny Hamlin tears ACL playing basketball

Today it was announced that Denny Hamlin tore his right ACL playing basketball Tuesday night. He will require surgery following the season but right now he plans on racing the rest of the year as normal.

This is not Denny Hamlin’s first torn ACL playing basketball. In 2010 he also tore his ACL. That year he won at Martinsville following his ACL tear and won the very next race following surgery (not implying that will happen).

Richmond Outlook

I really didn’t like Hamlin very much heading into Richmond and I like him less now (Front Runner Rankings). When you combine his lack of competitiveness at shorter flat tracks this year, recent Richmond slump and a meaningless race I just don’t see any upside in picking him.
