Asterisk Mark Report – Bristol Dirt

Chase Briscoe – Last year at Bristol Dirt, I would argue Chase Briscoe had the best car and in our PROS Rankings, he ranked #1 for subjectively being the strongest. In the race, Briscoe started 4th, took the lead on lap #1, led the first 48 laps until he had a flat tire and spun, rebounded to win Stage #2, then over the final Stage he drove up thru the field with determination only to have a failed “Hail Mary ” at the end. When the race reached its conclusion, Briscoe finished 22nd, led 59 laps and ranked 2nd for speed late in a run.
Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon showed top five potential last year at Bristol Dirt but he finished an asterisk mark 31st. In the race, Dillon finished 4th in Stage #1, was running around 5th with 50 to go, but then shortly after that on lap 210 while running in 8th, Dillon’s engine blew up which marked the end of his race leading to his 31st.
Ross Chastain – Last year at Bristol Dirt, Ross Chastain had a “Dirt Engine DNF.” In the race, Chastain started 33rd, used pit strategy during the Stage #1 caution which got him in the top five, finished just outside the top ten in Stage #2, but then during the caution leading to the final Stage, the #1’s engine blew up which marked the end of Chastain’s race leading to his 33rd. If Chastain’s race would’ve been incident free, I think he was a top ten contender.
