Los Angeles Clash 2024 Asterisk Mark Report (For Bowman Gray)

Ty Gibbs – Last year in the Clash in LA, Ty Gibbs was subjectively the strongest, but he finished an asterisk mark 18th. In the race, Gibbs had the best Green Flag Speed, had a 1.9 average running position, led the most laps (84) but late cautions were his undoing, leading to his misleading result. Gibbs lost the lead during a late restart, fell back a few positions after that and then on the final lap while running in 6th, he was spun, leading to his disappointing 18th.
Bubba Wallace – Bubba Wallace finished 12th in last year’s Clash but that result underrates him. In the race, Wallace was spun out while running around 7th on lap 77 but he bounced back. On lap 140 with 10 to go, Wallace was back up to 6th, but then late wildness had him falling back over the closing laps to his 12th. In the race, Wallace had the 5th best Driver Rating and ranked 6th in terms of Green Flag Speed.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott finished 22nd in last year’s LA Clash but I wouldn’t read into that result. During the half-time break, the #9 team called it a race after having some sort of serious “Steering issue” which led to his DNF. Just prior to his demise, Elliott was in 12th. In terms of Green Flag Speed, Elliott ranked 9th.
