Richmond Cook Out 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions / The Low Tier

John H Nemechek
Richmond Fantasy Outlook – I don’t think anything good will likely happen if you pick John H Nemechek at Richmond, but he will have upside since he’s had success at shorter-flat tracks this year. At “The Action Track”, Nemechek has a 28.7 average finish, and his Next Gen Speed Ranking ranks 31st. This year at shorter-flat tracks, Nemechek recently finished 15th at Iowa and then to start the season on this track type he finished 14th at Phoenix. Heading into the weekend, I would view him as about a 20th place driver who’ll have upside.
Richmond Track History – At Richmond, JHN is 3 for 3 at finishing between 25th to 31st and his average finish is 28.7. Last summer, Nemechek had his worst Richmond race yet and finished 31st. Additionally, Nemechek had a 32.6 average running position, ranked 35th in terms of Driver Rating and had the 35th best Total Speed Ranking. Last spring, Nemechek finished 25th, had a 25.6 average running position and his Total Speed Ranking ranked 22nd. Back in 2020 when he piloted the #38, Nemechek finished 30th.
Austin Cindric
Richmond Fantasy Outlook – At Richmond, I would use the K.I.S.S rule with Austin Cindric and pencil him in for a 20’s finish. At Richmond in the Next Gen, Cindric is 5 for 6 at finishing in the 20’s, has a 22.2 average finish and ranks 22nd in terms of Next Gen Speed Rankings. I’ll note, there is some hope that Cindric might have some upside but it’s marginal at best and I’m basing that off a recent uptick in performance and him having a 15.5 average finish between the two shorter-flat tracks visited this year.
Richmond Track History – Austin Cindric has been pretty consistent at Richmond. His average finish is 22.2 and he’s 5 for 6 at finishing in the 20’s. Over the last four, Cindric is 4 for 4 at finishing between 23rd to 28th and has a 25.3 average finish. Last summer, Cindric finished 24th and ranked 25th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. Last spring, Cindric started 9th, finished in the 20’s in both the opening Stages, had a 23.9 average running position and then finished 23rd overall. In 2023, Cindric had finishes of 26th and 28th.
AJ Allmendinger
Richmond Fantasy Outlook – AJ Allmendinger has been Mr. Consistent at Richmond in the Next Gen but not in a good way. Allmendinger has three Next Gen starts and he’s 3 for 3 at finishing 27th. When you go back further, it doesn’t really get any better and over his last 10 he’s finished 20th or worse with his average finish being 26.9. This year at shorter-flat tracks, Allmendinger has a 20th place average finish. Heading into the weekend, I would just view him as about a 20th place driver.
Richmond Track History – In the Next Gen at Richmond, Allmendinger is 3 for 3 at finishing 27th and his average Next Gen Speed Ranking is 25.3. Last year, Allmendinger didn’t compete in either race. In 2023 when he most recently raced, Allmendinger of course had a pair of 27th place finishes for the season.
