On Sunday, NASCAR will be returning from break for the Iowa Corn 350. Iowa is a .875-mile oval with progressive banking. I view Iowa as a “Shorter Flat Track”, with the very best comp track being Richmond (Shorter Flat Track Since 2025 Average Finishes / Speed Rankings).

1) Ryan Blaney
Start 1st / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – High
Iowa Outlook – At Iowa, look for 2024 winner and Sunday’s polesitter, Ryan Blaney to be tough to beat. Blaney’s a super-elite shorter-flat track performer and he’s been stout at Iowa. At Iowa, Blaney was the class of the field in 2024 and over the combined races, he ranks 2nd across the board in terms of average finish (2.5), Speed and Driver Rating. Last summer, Blaney finished 4th in Stage #1, finished 2nd in Stage #2, had the 2nd best average running position (5.2), earned the 4th best Driver Rating and then finished 4th overall. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Blaney ranked 3rd. In 2024, Blaney smoked the field, easily racing his way to victory lane. In the race, Blaney won Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2, had a race best 2.6 average running position, led the most laps (201) and earned the best Driver Rating by a wide margin. In terms of speed analytics, Blaney had the best Total Speed Ranking and ranked 4th for Speed Late In A Run. At shorter-flat tracks since 2025, Blaney has the best average finish (6.6), best Driver Rating and ranks #1 for Speed (3.5 average Speed Ranking). Also on this track type, Blaney’s won 3 of the last 4 races and minus Phoenix #1 2025 where his engine blew up his average finish is 3.6. In practice, Blaney was a stopwatch standout and ranked #1 for 10,15,20,25 and 30-lap averages. Blaney was also viewed to be the best in the telecast.

2) Joey Logano
Start 3rd / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Iowa Outlook – Joey Logano is one of the hottest drivers in NASCAR and at Iowa, I think he’s capable of having another great afternoon. Logano’s run well over the two previous races (7.5 average finish) and he’s by far at his best at shorter-flat tracks. On this track type, Logano recently smoked the field at North Wilkesboro and since 2025 he ranks 2nd for Speed and has the 3rd best average finish (8.9). In 5 of the last 6 races on this track type going back to last year, he’s finished in the top 5. At Iowa, Logano’s 2 for 2 at finishing in the top ten and ranks 4th for average finish (7.5), 6th for Driver Rating and then 10th for Speed. Last year, Logano had a respectable showing, but was only really good late. In the race, Logano started 14th, had a 17.5 average running position, earned the 14th best Driver Rating and then finished 9th. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Logano ranked 19th but he was at his best when it counted and his speed over the segments were 19th, 24th, 24th and then 10th. In 2025, Logano ran great. In the race, Logano finished 6th, earned the 5th best Driver Rating and had a 7.5 average running position. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Logano ranked 5th. In practice, Logano ranked 3rd for 10-lap averages and 7th for 20-lap averages.

3) Ty Gibbs
Start 6th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Iowa Outlook – Ty Gibbs and the #54 team are red hot and clicking off good results and at Iowa, look for him to have a great performance. Gibbs has yet to do anything good here but at shorter-flat tracks in 2026, Gibbs has a pair of 4th place finishes, and his average Speed Ranking is 6.5. In other 2026 track type analytics, Gibbs ranks 3rd for average running position and 5th for Driver Rating. At Iowa over the combined races, Gibbs ranks 13th for Speed, 18th for Driver Rating but is 2 for 2 at finishing in the 20’s with a 23.0 average finish. Last year, Gibbs started 20th, finished 19th in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2 (caution during the pit cycle helped him there in this Stage), but then in the last Stage, pit strategy dropped him back to the 20’s and from that point on he ran high-teens or worse. When the checkered flag waved, Gibbs finished 21st. Additionally, Gibbs had a 15.8 average running position and ranked 13th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. In 2024, Gibbs finished 25th and that represents his performance. In practice, Gibbs was viewed to be one of the best and he ranked 6th for 10-lap averages and 6th for 30-lap averages.
