Iowa Corn 350 NASCAR Practice Notes

Chase Elliott – 23 minutes into practice, Chase Elliott got into the wall which brought out the caution. Elliott was 28th overall at the time. Also at that time, Elliott ranked 17th for 10-lap averages. I would say the damage was minimal and later in practice he returned to the track to log more laps. I think there’s high odds he’ll start in the rear of the field on Sunday.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney was really good in practice. In the second half of practice, Blaney set fast lap times that put him #1 for 5,10,15,20,25 and 30-lap averages. Jeff Burton thought Blaney was one of the best. Blaney said he was happy with his car and got better through practice.
Denny Hamlin – The #11 team did some work on their brakes. Hamlin said his brake pedal was to the floor. To close out practice, Hamlin’s brake problems continued. In practice, Hamlin’s 10-lap average ranked 14th but he never made a 15-lap run. Hamlin said his brakes were solid for 2-laps and then that was it.
Chase Briscoe – Briscoe had brake concerns in practice. Late in practice, Briscoe finally logged a 10-lap run which stacked up as the 13th best. Briscoe said his car was fairly good when his brakes worked.
Ty Gibbs – Ty Gibbs was strong in practice. At the 20-minute mark in practice he ranked #1 for 5,10 and 15-lap averages. Jeff Burton thought he was one of the best. Gibbs said his car was really good in practice. When practice ended, Gibbs ranked 6th for 10-lap averages, 9th for 10-lap averages and 6th for 30-lap averages.
