Iowa Corn 350 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions / The Low Tier

Zane Smith
Iowa Fantasy Outlook – At Iowa, it’s likely wise to just view Zane Smith as a mid-pack driver who’ll have potential upside. Smith often outperforms expectations, and he did sneak in a 9th this spring at Phoenix in his #38 (20th best Total Speed Ranking), so there’s hope. Overall at shorter-flat tracks since last year, Smith has a 26.9 average finish and ranks 30th in terms of Track Type Total Speed Rankings.
Iowa Track History – Last year at Iowa, Zane Smith had an ugly evening and finished 31st. Additionally, Smith had a 31.7 average running position and ranked 35th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. That said, Smith’s race also wasn’t incident free. On lap 130 while running in the 30’s, Smith had a tire issue and made an unexpected pit stop.
Justin Haley
Iowa Fantasy Outlook – Last summer in the Rick Ware #51, Justin Haley had a great performance and finished 13th, despite his race not being incident free. In 2025 in the #7, Haley is a high-teens to low-twenties driver on most race weekends at this point in the season, and I would expect more of the same from him at Iowa. Since 2024 at shorter-flat tracks, Haley ranks 19th in terms of Track Type Total Speed Rankings.
Iowa Track History – Justin Haley had a strong showing last year at Iowa and finished 13th. In the race, Haley started 19th, raced his way into the top ten by lap 40 but then shortly after that, Haley got a speeding penalty while running in the top ten that dropped him to the back. Haley bounced back though and finished 10th in Stage #2. In addition to finishing 13th, Haley had a 15.1 average running position and earned the 14th best Driver Rating. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Haley ranked 12th.
Todd Gilliland
Iowa Fantasy Outlook – Things have gotten ugly on the track for Todd Gilliland and the #34 team on the track on a near weekly basis and at Iowa, I would look for him to be a +20 driver with the expectation nothing good will happen. Since last year at shorter-flat tracks, Gilliland has a 16.5 average finish, he’s had a result in the top 21 every race and ranks 24th in terms of Track Type Total Speed Rankings. This spring at Phoenix, Gilliland finished 17th.
Iowa Track History – Todd Gilliland had a solid afternoon for himself last year at Iowa and finished 12th. Additionally, Gilliland earned the 16th best driver rating and had a 17.7 average running position. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Gilliland ranked 19th with his speed over the segments being 30th, 23rd, 10th and 13th, so as you can see, he was clearly at his best in the second half of the race.
