Heading into the weekend, I would view him as a teens driver who’ll have marginal upside.
Michigan Track History – At Michigan in the Next Gen, Erik Jones has an 11.3 average finish, ranks 12th for Driver Rating and 14th for Next Gen Speed Rankings. In terms of the results column, he’s 4 for 4 at finishing between 8th to 16th. Last year, Jones finished 11th, had a 15.9 average running position and ranked 16th for Speed. Also for the season at high-speed intermediates, Suarez ranks 16th for Speed and over the combined races his 11.0 average finish is tied for being the 5th best.
Michigan Track History – At Michigan in the Next Gen, Daniel Suarez ranks 9th for average finish (13.3), 14th for Driver Rating and 15th for Speed. In terms of the results column over the last three his average finish is 9.3. Last year, Suarez finished 14th but take note of his 24.5 average running position and 24th best Speed Ranking. I’ll also note, early in the race things weren’t incident free for him and by lap 70, he already made an unexpected pit stop and spun. That said, Suarez was solid to close out and ran in the teens. In 2024, Suarez finished 8th but don’t read into that result too much. In the race, Suarez ranked 15th in terms of Total Speed Rankings, had a 17.3 average running position and was running in 17th on lap 190 before overtime wildness ensued, which clearly helped him. In 2023, the #99 was legit strong. In the race, Suarez finished 6th in Stage #1, finished 2nd in Stage #2, led 12 laps, had a 10.4 average running position and then finished 6th. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Suarez ranked 5th.
